The design works with the room’s existing architectural character, including its traditional fireplace and millwork, while introducing furnishings and accessories that give the space a more personal, worldly point of view.
A deep-toned sectional anchors the room and provides a comfortable foundation for everyday living, while the upholstered armchair, warm wood, brass accents, and varied textiles keep the palette from feeling one-dimensional. Around the fireplace, green tile adds subtle color and visual texture, while the ornate framed mirror and carefully chosen objects introduce a sense of history.
Traditional Details Meet Relaxed Furnishings
One of the strengths of this living room is the contrast between its more traditional architectural details and its relaxed furnishings. Rather than treating the fireplace, trim, and existing character as elements to work around, the design allows them to become part of the overall composition.

The furniture establishes the foundation of the room. Generous upholstered seating creates a comfortable place to gather, while the arrangement preserves movement through the space and keeps the fireplace visually connected to the seating area.
Instead of relying on a matching furniture set, the room combines pieces with different shapes, materials and visual weights. That variation helps the living room feel collected over time while maintaining a clear relationship between each element.
